What's the difference?

The formulations required for modern vehicles are very different from those needed for older vehicles. Oils for modern engines comply with the latest API ratings of SN/CF and specific ACEA and OEM specifications dealing with fuel efficiency, extended drain intervals and aftermarket exhaust treatment systems and are specifically designed for the modern engine needs.

In the early 1960s to solve the problem of using different oil grades for both summer and winter, multigrade engine oils were introduced to the market. We are unable to make a recommendation, but would suggest you seek out a conventional, multi-grade engine oil with a high viscosity, which helps to reduce oil loss and leakage and can be used all year round. We use a 20W50 Product from a local high street brand in our classic cars.

What could it be?

As always, start with the simple checks. There are two types of brake systems: disc and drum. Both use friction and resistance to stop the vehicle. In a disc-style system, there is a rotor connected to the wheel.

Calipers, which are powered by the vehicles hydraulic brake system, apply pressure to the brake pad, which rub against the rotor causing friction, bringing the wheel to a stop.

A drum brake is a brake that uses friction caused by a set of shoes or pads that press outward against a rotating cylinder-shaped part called a brake drum. Worn out brake pads: Brake pads wear down over time and as they do, they will exhibit a number of symptoms, one of which may be pulling to the side during braking. Try bleeding all the brake lines , checking for air bubbles. You also want to check the drums and or calipers for correct fitting/malfunctioning. I'd also suggest you check the hand-brake tension (remembering when our Type 2 Bay had a similar issue).

Uneven pressure in tires can cause a car to pull when driving or braking. Low pressure on one side of the vehicle changes the height and relative speed of the tire, affecting the effective alignment of the car. It could also be due to a stuck caliper: If one of the brake calipers is stuck, you will notice a significant pull to one side when braking. You will also probably notice a pull to one side even when you are not braking.
